WebDAV File Manager for BigCommerce

What it does
The WebDAV File Manager is an interactive file browser for the files stored on your BigCommerce store over WebDAV. WebDAV is the behind-the-scenes file storage BigCommerce gives every store — it holds things like product images, downloadable files, theme assets, and documents.
Instead of setting up a separate desktop WebDAV program, you connect your store once and manage those files right here. Everything happens live, while you watch — there’s no background job and no emailed results. When you upload or change a file, you see the result immediately.
The tool has three parts:
- Media Manager — a visual media library for uploading and organizing images, PDFs, and video, with folders and a details panel for each item.
- File Library — a full file explorer over your store’s raw WebDAV storage: folder tree, breadcrumbs, uploads, new folders and files, rename, delete, download, image previews, an in-browser text editor, and one-click public URLs.
- WebDAV Settings — where you enter and update your connection details.
When to use it
- You want to upload images or other files to your store without leaving the interface.
- You need to browse what’s already stored on your store and find, rename, or reorganize files.
- You want to make a quick edit to a text-based file (a CSS tweak, a robots or data file) without downloading and re-uploading it.
- You need the public CDN link for a file to paste into a product description or page.
- You’d rather not install a standalone WebDAV client on your computer.
Before you start
You need your store’s WebDAV credentials from BigCommerce before the file browser will open. BigCommerce provides these in your store’s control panel — the settings screen links to step-by-step instructions for finding them. If you haven’t entered credentials yet, the tool opens the settings screen automatically so you can add them first.
If your plan doesn’t include this tool yet, the button reads “Subscribe To WebDAV File Manager”. Subscribe to unlock it.
Step-by-step
1. Connect — WebDAV Settings
1 Open WebDAV File Manager from your BigCommerce tools. The first time (or any time via the WebDAV Settings action), the settings form opens:

2 Save — you’ll see “WebDav Settings Updated”.
2. Work visually — Media Manager
1 Open Media Manager (the tool’s main button once you’re connected).
2 Browse your media as a visual grid, organized into folders.
3 Click Upload to open the upload box and add images, PDFs, or video.
4 Select an item to see its details in the info panel.
3. Full control — File Library
1 Open File Library to launch the file explorer over your raw WebDAV storage.
2 Navigate with the folder tree on the left (levels load as you expand them), the breadcrumbs across the top, or by clicking into folders in the list.
3 The list shows Name, Size, Type, and Date — folders first, then files.
4 Use the toolbar: Go up, Refresh, Upload files, New folder, New file, Rename (select exactly one item), Delete (select one or more), and Fullscreen.
5 Click a file to select it; Ctrl/⌘-click to select several; double-click to preview.
6 Right-click any item for the context menu:
- Open (folders) / Preview (files)
- Edit — opens text-based files in the in-browser editor
- Download — downloads the file to your computer
- Copy URL — copies the file’s public link (the CDN link when Use CDN URL is on)
- Rename and Delete
7 Upload files opens a drop zone — drag files in or click to pick several at once. Uploads go to the folder you’re viewing and overwrite same-named files.
8 New file creates an empty file and opens it straight in the editor; Edit on an existing text file opens the same editor. Make your changes and Save — they’re written back to your store immediately.
Supported files
- Everything in your store’s WebDAV storage is browsable, downloadable, renamable, and deletable — there’s no file-type or size restriction on uploads by default.
- Previewable images (shown inline when you double-click or Preview): JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, SVG, WEBP, BMP.
- Editable text files (open in the in-browser editor): TXT, CSV, HTML, CSS, JS, JSON, XML, MD, LOG, YML, YAML.
- Files that are neither previewable nor editable open in a new browser tab when previewed.
- Hidden “dot” files (like
.htaccess) are not shown in the list.
Troubleshooting / FAQ
The file browser won’t open / it keeps sending me to settings.
The tool needs valid WebDAV credentials first. Open WebDAV Settings, enter your WebDAV Path, Username, and Password from BigCommerce, and save.
I see a “Subscribe To WebDAV File Manager” button instead of the file browser.
This tool requires an active subscription on your plan. Subscribe to unlock it, then reopen the tool.
My files won’t load or I get a connection error.
Double-check the WebDAV Path, Username, and Password against what BigCommerce shows in your control panel — a single wrong character will stop the connection. Re-enter them in WebDAV Settings and save. Use the instructions link on that screen if you need help locating them.
A file I just added elsewhere isn’t showing.
Listings are briefly cached (about 30 seconds) to keep browsing fast. Click Refresh in the toolbar to reload the current folder immediately.
“Some files could not be uploaded.”
One or more files were skipped — most often a file-type or size restriction if one has been configured for your store. The rest of your files uploaded normally.
I want a public link to a file, not a WebDAV path.
Turn on Use CDN URL in WebDAV Settings, then use Copy URL in the File Library — you’ll get the public BigCommerce CDN address for the file.
I deleted a folder by mistake — can I get it back?
No. Deleting a folder removes it and everything inside it from your store’s WebDAV storage, and the tool has no undo. The delete confirmation is your last chance — read it carefully.
When will I get an email with my results?
You won’t — this tool is interactive. Unlike import/export tools, it doesn’t run a background job or email you. Everything you do happens live in the window while you watch.
