WebDAV File Manager App for BigCommerce

🔧 Quick Info: WebDAV File Manager is a standalone BigCommerce app that lets you browse, upload, organize, edit, download, and share files stored in your store’s WebDAV account directly from your BigCommerce admin.

Install WebDAV from the App Store

What It Does

BigCommerce stores images, downloadable files, theme assets, documents, and other files in a storage area called WebDAV.

Normally, accessing WebDAV requires a separate desktop program. WebDAV File Manager places a complete file-management interface inside your BigCommerce administration area instead.

The app includes the following pages:

  • Dashboard – A visual Media Manager for uploading and organizing images, PDFs, and videos.
  • File Library – A complete file explorer for everything stored in your WebDAV account.
  • WebDAV Settings – The connection details used to access your store’s files.
  • Billing – Subscription and billing information.
  • Contact Us – Access to support.

You can perform common file-management tasks directly in your browser, including:

  • Browse files and folders.
  • Upload new files.
  • Create folders and text files.
  • Rename files and folders.
  • Edit supported text files.
  • Preview images and documents.
  • Download files.
  • Copy public file URLs.
  • Delete files and folders.

Live File Management: File operations happen directly in your browser and are applied immediately to your store. There are no background jobs or completion emails.

When Should You Use This?

  • You want to manage your store’s files without installing a desktop WebDAV program.
  • You need to organize product images, PDFs, videos, downloads, or theme assets.
  • You want to upload several files directly from your browser.
  • You need to create or rename folders.
  • You want to make a quick change to an HTML, CSS, CSV, or other text file.
  • You need a public URL for a file to use on a product page, content page, or email.
  • You want to preview images without downloading them first.
  • You need access to all files stored in your BigCommerce WebDAV account.

Before You Get Started

  • Install the WebDAV File Manager app in your BigCommerce store.
  • Complete the app’s setup and billing steps.
  • The app subscription is $10 per month.
  • Locate your WebDAV Path, Username, and Password in the BigCommerce control panel.
  • Confirm that the credentials belong to the correct BigCommerce store.
  • Decide whether public file links should use your store’s CDN URL.

Setup Required: The app cannot open the Dashboard or File Library until valid WebDAV connection details are saved and the subscription charge is approved.

First-Run Setup

The first time you open WebDAV File Manager, the app guides you through a short setup process.

1 Enter the WebDAV Settings

Enter the WebDAV Path, Username, and Password provided by BigCommerce.

The settings screen includes a link to instructions for locating these values in your BigCommerce control panel.

2 Complete Billing

Approve the app’s subscription charge through BigCommerce.

After both setup steps are complete, the Dashboard opens.

WebDAV Settings

The connection details are entered during setup and can be updated later from the WebDAV Settings page.

Field Required? What It Means
WebDAV Path Yes The WebDAV address supplied by BigCommerce. It usually ends with /dav.
WebDAV Username Yes The WebDAV username provided in your BigCommerce control panel.
WebDAV Password Yes The WebDAV password supplied by BigCommerce. When editing the settings later, leave this field blank to keep the password already saved.
Use CDN URL No When enabled, Copy URL returns a fast, public CDN link that can be used on product pages, content pages, or in emails.

  2. Open File Library.
  3. Locate the file.
  4. Right-click it and select Copy URL.

CDN Links: A CDN URL is designed for public delivery and is generally the best choice for images, downloads, and other files linked from your storefront.

Deleting Files and Folders

Select the file or folder and choose Delete from the toolbar or right-click menu.

Deletion Cannot Be Undone: Deleting a folder removes the folder and everything stored inside it. There is no restore or undo option. Review the confirmation carefully before deleting files or folders.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

The app will not let me continue past setup

The WebDAV Settings and Payment steps must both be completed before the Dashboard opens.

Save valid connection details, approve the subscription charge through BigCommerce, and finish the setup wizard.

My files will not load or I receive a connection error

Review the WebDAV Path, Username, and Password against the values shown in your BigCommerce control panel.

One incorrect character can prevent the connection. Correct the details on the WebDAV Settings page and save them again.

I changed the settings but do not want to replace the saved password

Leave the WebDAV Password field blank when updating the other settings. The app keeps the password already saved.

A file I added elsewhere is not showing

Give the WebDAV storage a few seconds to update, then select Refresh in the File Library toolbar.

How do I get a public link to a file?

Make sure Use CDN URL is enabled in WebDAV Settings. Then right-click the file in File Library and select Copy URL.

Uploading a file replaced another file

A file uploaded into a folder replaces an existing file when both use the same filename. Rename the new or existing file first when you need to keep both versions.

I deleted a folder by mistake

Deleted folders and their contents cannot be restored through the app. Deletion is permanent and has no undo option.

A text-file change is not appearing on my store

Confirm that you selected Save in the built-in editor. You may also need to refresh the storefront page or clear any browser, theme, or CDN caching before the updated file appears.
