Price Updater Tool for Shopify
🔧 Quick Info: Price Updater lets you change the selling Price and Compare At Price for many Shopify product variants at once. Variants are matched by SKU from an uploaded CSV or Excel spreadsheet.
What It Does
Price Updater lets you change prices for many Shopify product variants at once instead of editing each product individually.
You upload a CSV or Excel spreadsheet, match its columns to the tool’s fields, and start the update. The tool searches your Shopify store for a product variant with the SKU listed in each row.
You can update either or both of these fields:
- Price – The current selling price of the Shopify product variant.
- Compare At Price – The original or “was” price commonly displayed with a strikethrough when the Price is lower.
SKU Matching: Price Updater changes existing Shopify product variants only. It does not create products, variants, or SKUs.
The update runs as a background job, so you can close the page after submitting it. When the job finishes, the tool can send a notification to the email address you selected.
Rows that could not be updated are collected in the results so you can correct and upload them again.
When Should You Use This?
- You are starting or ending a sale.
- You need to raise prices because of supplier, shipping, or operating-cost increases.
- You need to correct a large batch of product prices.
- You maintain Shopify pricing in a spreadsheet.
- You want to add or change Compare At Prices across many variants.
- You need to set Price or Compare At Price values to zero.
- You want to avoid editing product variants one at a time in Shopify.
Before You Get Started
- Your Shopify store must be connected to your account.
- Prepare a CSV or Excel spreadsheet.
- The first row of the file must contain column headers.
- Include an SKU column.
- Include a Price column, Compare At Price column, or both.
- Make sure the SKUs in the file match existing Shopify product variants.
- Your connected Shopify account must have permission to manage products.
At Least One Price Field Required: Mapping the SKU column by itself is not enough. You must also map Price, Compare At Price, or both.
Review Your Spreadsheet: The tool writes the uploaded values directly to matching Shopify variants. Check your prices carefully before starting the update.
How to Use It
1 Open the Tool
Open Price Updater for your connected Shopify store.
2 Prepare the Spreadsheet
Make sure the first row of the spreadsheet contains column headings.
The file should include:
- An SKU column.
- A Price column, Compare At Price column, or both.
3 Upload the File
On the Upload Price Updates step, upload your CSV or Excel spreadsheet.
The tool reads the header row and displays the available columns for mapping.
4 Map the SKU Column
Map the spreadsheet column containing the product-variant SKUs to SKU.
The SKU is used to identify the Shopify variant that should be updated.
5 Map the Price Fields
Map the applicable spreadsheet columns to:
- Price
- Compare At Price
You can map either field or both. Spreadsheet columns that are not mapped are ignored.
6 Choose Email Delivery
On the Email Delivery step, choose whether you want to receive an email when the update is complete.
Confirm the notification address. Your account email is filled in automatically, but you can change it.
7 Start the Update
Submit the tool to begin updating the matching Shopify variants.
The job runs in the background, so you can close the page while it processes.
8 Review the Results
When the update finishes, review the completion notice or email.
Rows that could not be updated are included in the results so you can correct and upload them again.
File and Field Reference
The first row of the spreadsheet must contain column headers. Map the fields below during the upload process.
| Field | Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SKU | Yes | Identifies the Shopify product variant to update. The value can contain up to 255 characters and must match an existing variant SKU. |
| Price | No | The new selling price. The value must be numeric. A value of 0 sets the Price to 0.00. |
| Compare At Price | No | The compare-at or “was” price. The value must be numeric. A value of 0 sets the Compare At Price to 0.00. |
Required Mapping: SKU must always be mapped. At least one of Price or Compare At Price must also be mapped.
How Price Values Are Applied
| Row Condition | What Happens |
|---|---|
| SKU found and valid Price provided | The variant’s selling Price is updated. |
| SKU found and valid Compare At Price provided | The variant’s Compare At Price is updated. |
| Price and Compare At Price both provided | Both fields are updated for the matching variant. |
| Price is 0 | The variant’s Price is set to 0.00. |
| Compare At Price is 0 | The variant’s Compare At Price is set to 0.00. |
| SKU is not found | The row is skipped and included in the results. |
Example Spreadsheet
| SKU | Price | Compare At |
|---|---|---|
| SHIRT-BLUE-M | 29.99 | 39.99 |
| SHIRT-BLUE-L | 34.99 | 44.99 |
| CLEARANCE-ITEM | 0 | 19.99 |
The example columns could be mapped as follows:
- SKU to SKU
- Price to Price
- Compare At to Compare At Price
Price and Compare At Price
Shopify commonly uses Compare At Price to show that a product is discounted.
| Price | Compare At Price | Typical Result |
|---|---|---|
| 29.99 | 39.99 | The storefront may show 39.99 crossed out with 29.99 as the sale price. |
| 39.99 | 0.00 | The product may display only the current selling price, depending on the theme. |
Theme Display Varies: How Price and Compare At Price appear on the storefront depends on your Shopify theme and its pricing display settings.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
A SKU was not updated
The SKU in the file was not found on a Shopify product variant.
Check for typing errors, extra spaces, punctuation differences, or missing characters. Confirm that the SKU is assigned to an existing variant, then upload the row again.
My file was not accepted
Confirm that the file is a supported CSV or Excel spreadsheet and that the first row contains column headers.
The file should include an SKU column and at least one Price or Compare At Price column.
The columns appeared incorrectly
Make sure the first row contains the column names and that the file does not have blank rows or introductory text above the header row.
The tool will not let me continue
Map the SKU column and at least one of the following fields:
- Price
- Compare At Price
Mapping SKU alone does not provide a field for the tool to update.
The price was set to zero
A numeric value of 0 is treated as a valid price and sets the mapped Shopify field to 0.00.
Correct the spreadsheet value and upload the affected row again if this was not intended.
My Compare At Price does not appear on the storefront
Confirm that the Compare At Price was updated in Shopify and is greater than the current Price.
Your theme must also support displaying compare-at pricing.
Where are my results?
The update runs as a background job. When it finishes, the tool displays the results and can email the address selected during the delivery step.
Rows that could not be updated are included so you can correct and upload them again.
