1. What is Magic Sorter?

Magic Sorter gives you complete control over the order products appear in your BigCommerce categories. Set up your sorting rules once — by dragging products into place or by choosing an automatic rule like Best Selling — and Magic Sorter keeps everything organized for you, on a schedule, without manual re-sorting every time inventory changes.

Base features (every plan):

The Sort Products list

Sort Products shows every category in your store in a searchable table.

Columns

Column	What it shows
Category	Image, name, breadcrumb path, ID, and product count
Storefronts	Which storefront(s) the category belongs to (Multi-Storefront stores only — see Multi-Storefront stores)
Sort type	Custom Product Sort, a property name (e.g. Best Selling), or Not set up
Auto-sort	On / Daily (runs automatically), Off (manual only), or — (not set up)
Snapshots	Saved sort orders used vs your quota (e.g. 2/3, 2/50)
Updated	When the category’s sort was last changed (toggleable)
Last backup	When the most recent backup was captured (toggleable)

Filters — narrow the list by sort type (configured vs unconfigured, custom vs property), auto-sort status, whether a category has snapshots, whether it has a backup, and — on Multi-Storefront stores — by storefront.

Bulk actions (select one or more categories):

• Run sort now — re-apply the configured sort immediately.
• Auto-sort: On / Off — turn daily automatic sorting on or off.
• Change sort type — switch selected categories to custom or a property sort.
• Create snapshot — save the current order under a name.

Row actions (per category):

• Edit Sort — open the Sort Editor.
• Restore last backup — undo the last sort run (asks for confirmation).
• Delete Saved Sort — remove the configuration and reset to the BigCommerce default.

Refresh Categories — clears the cached list so newly created categories show up.

Multi-Storefront stores

If your BigCommerce plan has Multi-Storefront turned on, Magic Sorter works across all of your storefronts automatically — there’s nothing to set up.

• Every storefront’s categories are listed. Sort Products shows categories from each of your category trees, not just the default one, so a category that only exists on your wholesale or second-brand storefront is sortable too.
• Storefronts column. Each row shows a badge for the storefront(s) the category belongs to. Toggle the column on or off like any other.
• Storefront filter. Use the Storefront filter to narrow the list to a single storefront, or type a storefront name into the search box.
• Sorting works the same. Open any category, choose a sort type, and Save & apply sort exactly as you would on a single storefront. Automatic sorting, backups, snapshots and schedules all apply per category regardless of which storefront it lives on.

Stores without Multi-Storefront never see the Storefronts column or filter.

Custom sort options (shown when Sort Type is Custom):

• New Products — whether products newly added to the category are placed before your custom order (default) or at the end.
• Sync New Products — when on, products newly added to your store automatically appear in this sort; when off, you add them yourself.
• Move out-of-stock to bottom — floats out-of-stock items to the bottom. (Premium feature — see Plans & limits.)
• Restore to original position — if you later disable the sort, return the category to its original BigCommerce order.
• Auto-sort — run this category’s sort automatically on your daily schedule.

Quick Sort Helpers (shown when Sort Type is Custom)

Rearrange all products at once instead of dragging card by card:

• Quick Sort Products By — apply a property sort (Best Selling, Newest, Price, etc.) once as a starting point, then fine-tune by dragging.
• Quick Sort by SKU / ID List — paste a comma-separated, ordered list of SKUs or product IDs and Magic Sorter reorders the category to match. Pick the identifier from the Sort products by dropdown in the modal (SKU is the default); the list pre-fills with the current order so you can rearrange it in place. Switching the identifier regenerates the list in that format. Products not in your list keep their relative order at the end.

The product grid

• Choose a column layout for easier scanning.
• Hide out-of-stock and Hide not-visible toggles to declutter.
• Each product is a draggable card (thumbnail, name, SKU, price, inventory). Drag a single card, or select several and multi-drag them together.
• For large categories, the grid paginates (see Settings → Product pagination); drag-and-drop works across pages.

4. Automatic (scheduled) sorting

Instead of running sorts by hand, let Magic Sorter re-sort your categories every day.

Per-category control — you can override the store default on any individual category using the Auto-sort toggle in the Sort Editor, or the Auto-sort: On/Off bulk action in the Sort Products list.

You can see recent runs in the Recent Activity area of your Dashboard, and undo any result with Restore last backup.

5. Backups & Snapshots

Open a category’s Sort Editor and switch to the Snapshots & schedules tab.

Automatic backups — every sort run captures a backup automatically. Restore any backup with one click if you don’t like a result. Retention depends on your plan (7 days on Base, 30 days on Premium — see Plans & limits).

Saved Snapshots — save a named sort order (e.g. “Summer Sale” or “Christmas”) and re-apply it to the category any time. Great for seasonal layouts you reuse year after year. Your plan sets how many you can keep per store (3 on Base, 50 on Premium).

Scheduled sorts — pick a date (and time/timezone) for a saved snapshot to apply automatically. Choose a one-off date or a recurring seasonal schedule (e.g. every year on a set date). Disable a schedule without deleting it whenever you like. Your plan sets how many schedules you can keep (1 on Base, 20 on Premium).

6. Settings reference

Open Settings from the left menu.

Automatic sorting — the store-wide default for whether categories sort daily. When you toggle it you can choose to turn it on for all categories now, or just set the default that future categories follow.

Sort schedule — the daily sort time (the hour your automatic sorts run) and your store timezone. Save with Save schedule.

Product pagination — for performance on large catalogs.

• Turn on Paginate large categories to split big categories into pages in the editor.
• Pagination threshold (default 2000) — categories with fewer products load all at once; larger ones paginate.
• Products per page (default 200) — how many products show per page in the editor.
