LLMS.txt Generator for BigCommerce
🔧 Quick Info: llms.txt Generator creates and publishes a structured llms.txt file for each BigCommerce storefront. The file gives AI assistants a clear summary of your store, products, categories, brands, policies, pages, and contact information.
What It Does
llms.txt Generator builds and publishes an llms.txt file for your BigCommerce storefront.
The file is a plain-text page published at:
https://your-storefront.com/llms.txt
It gives AI assistants and AI-powered search tools a clean, structured summary of your store. This can include your main categories, featured products, brands, content pages, recent blog posts, shipping information, return policies, frequently asked questions, contact details, and other useful resources.
You configure the file using a visual editor with a live preview, so you can see exactly what will be published before making it live.
When you select Publish, the tool creates or updates the page at /llms.txt. Republishing updates the same page, so you can revise the content as often as needed.
Automatic Updates: Enable Auto-refresh to regenerate the file once each day. This helps keep featured products, categories, blog posts, and other store information current without requiring you to publish manually.
On stores using BigCommerce Multi-Storefront, each storefront has its own independent configuration and its own published llms.txt file.
When Should You Use This?
- You want AI assistants and AI-powered search tools to understand your store more accurately.
- You want more control over which categories, products, brands, and pages are highlighted.
- You want shipping, returns, policies, and frequently asked questions presented in a format designed for AI tools.
- You want to provide a concise overview of what your store sells and who it serves.
- You want to include your store’s contact information and important resources in one structured file.
- You operate multiple storefronts and want different content for each one.
- You want the file to refresh automatically as your catalog and blog change.
Before You Get Started
- llms.txt Generator is a paid add-on and is also included with the Your Store Tools Premium plan.
- If the tool is not active, the launch button reads Subscribe To Tool.
- Once the tool is active, the launch button reads Manage Storefronts.
- No upload file is required. The tool reads your categories, products, brands, pages, and blog posts directly from BigCommerce.
- Store data may be cached for up to one day, so very recent catalog changes may not appear immediately.
- You do not need to create an llms.txt page manually in BigCommerce. The tool creates and maintains it for you.
Subscription Required: If you see Subscribe To Tool instead of Manage Storefronts, activate the add-on or upgrade to the Your Store Tools Premium plan before continuing.
How to Use It
1 Open the Tool
Open llms.txt Generator from your BigCommerce tools dashboard and select Manage Storefronts.
2 Choose a Storefront
On a Multi-Storefront store, the llms.txt Storefronts table appears. Each row represents one storefront and displays its publishing status, Auto-refresh setting, last generated date, and a link to the published file when available.
Select Configure for the storefront you want to manage.
Single-storefront stores skip this table and open the configuration editor directly.
3 Complete the Store Overview
In the Configure llms.txt editor, complete the overview fields:
- Store Title – Required. The store name is filled in by default.
- Summary – A one-sentence description displayed beneath the title.
- Intro – An optional paragraph providing additional context about the store.
The storefront domain displayed at the top of the editor is detected automatically. Review it and correct it if necessary.
4 Configure the Sections
Work through the available sections and configure the content you want included.
- Toggle a section off to exclude it from the published file.
- Drag sections to change the order in which they appear.
- Replace placeholder text in written sections with your own content.
- Search for and select items in picker sections.
- Review automatically generated sections based on your store data.
5 Select Featured Store Content
Use the picker sections to choose the categories, products, brands, and pages you want to feature.
If you leave a picker section empty, the tool automatically includes the first 10 available items for that section.
6 Preview the File
Use the Preview toggle to view the exact text that will be published at your storefront’s /llms.txt address.
Review the title, section order, written content, selected items, and automatically generated links before publishing.
7 Configure Auto-Refresh
Optionally enable Auto-refresh and choose a time of day.
When enabled, the tool regenerates the file once each day at the selected hour. This allows new products, categories, pages, and blog posts to flow into the file automatically.
8 Publish the File
Select Publish to generate the file.
The storefront status changes to Processing… while the file is created. Publishing usually finishes in less than a minute, after which the status changes to Published.
9 View the Published File
Select View llms.txt from the storefront table or visit the following address using your storefront domain:
https://your-storefront.com/llms.txt
Starting Over: Select Reset to restore all sections and settings to the original starting template.

Multi-Storefront Management
Each storefront has its own independent configuration. Changes made to one storefront’s title, summary, sections, selected products, written content, or Auto-refresh schedule do not affect the others.
The storefront table can display:
- The storefront name and domain.
- Whether Auto-refresh is enabled.
- The time selected for daily generation.
- When the file was last generated.
- The current publishing status.
- A View llms.txt link after the first successful publish.
Generate All Enabled: This action generates files only for storefronts that currently have Auto-refresh enabled.
Publishing Status Reference
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Processing… | The file is currently being generated and published. |
| Published | The file was generated successfully and is available on the storefront. |
| Failed | The tool could not generate or publish the file. Open Configure and try publishing again. |
Troubleshooting and FAQ
The status shows “Failed”
Open Configure for the affected storefront and publish the file again. If it continues to fail, the most common cause is a BigCommerce API permission problem.
There is no “View llms.txt” link
The link appears after the first successful publish. If you recently selected Publish, wait for the status to change from Processing… to Published.
I deleted the llms.txt page in BigCommerce
Publish the file again. The next manual publish or scheduled Auto-refresh recreates the page automatically.
Auto-refresh is not updating the file
Auto-refresh is configured separately for each storefront. Open Configure for the affected storefront and confirm that Auto-refresh is enabled and that a time of day has been selected.
The file regenerates once each day at the selected hour. The Generate All Enabled action only runs storefronts that have Auto-refresh turned on.
A new product or category is missing
Store data is cached for up to one day. Recently added products, categories, pages, brands, or blog posts may not appear immediately.
Check again later or review the file after the next scheduled Auto-refresh.
I want different content on each storefront
Each storefront already has its own independent configuration. Open the storefront table and select Configure for each storefront to customize its content, selected sections, featured items, and Auto-refresh schedule.
The wrong storefront domain is shown
The domain is detected automatically, but you can edit it from the Configure llms.txt editor if the detected address is incorrect.
