Bulk Coupon Creator for BigCommerce
🔧 Quick Info: Bulk Coupon Creator lets you generate or import large batches of coupon codes for existing BigCommerce coupon promotions. You can create up to 500,000 codes per run, upload your own codes, and bulk-manage existing promotions.
Promotion Required: Create the promotion and its discount rules in BigCommerce before using Bulk Coupon Creator. The tool adds coupon codes to an existing coupon-based promotion but does not create the promotion itself.

What It Does
Bulk Coupon Creator adds large batches of coupon codes to promotions that already exist in your BigCommerce store.
Instead of creating coupon codes one at a time, you select the promotion that should receive the codes and choose one of two creation methods:
- Create via Wizard – Generate unique coupon codes automatically using the length, character set, prefix, suffix, delimiter, and usage limits you choose.
- Import from File – Upload a file containing coupon codes you already have, then match the file columns to the tool’s fields.
Up to 500,000 Codes: The Create via Wizard option can generate as many as 500,000 unique coupon codes in one run.
The selected BigCommerce promotion controls:
- What products or orders qualify.
- The discount amount or offer.
- Promotion conditions.
- Start and end dates.
- Whether the promotion can be combined with other offers.
Bulk Coupon Creator supplies the codes that activate the promotion.
The work runs in the background, so you do not need to keep the tool open. When the job finishes, you receive an email. If any codes could not be created, the results include a report showing which rows failed and why.
Promotion Management
The tool menu also includes options for managing existing coupon promotions:
- View Promotions – Browse, search, filter, enable, or disable coupon promotions.
- Export Promotions – Download promotion details to a CSV or Excel spreadsheet.
- Import Promotions – Bulk-update supported fields on promotions that already exist.
When Should You Use It?
- You need thousands of single-use coupon codes for a promotion.
- You want to provide a unique code to each customer, influencer, affiliate, or printed insert.
- You already have a spreadsheet of coupon codes that must be loaded into BigCommerce.
- You want generated codes to follow a pattern such as
SUMMER-XXXX. - You need to enable or disable many existing coupon promotions at once.
- You want to export promotion settings for review or bulk editing.
- Creating coupon codes individually in BigCommerce would take too long.
Before You Get Started
- Create the promotion in BigCommerce first.
- Make sure the promotion is configured to use coupon codes.
- Only coupon-based promotions appear in the selection list.
- Decide whether the tool should generate the codes or import codes you already have.
- If importing, make sure the first row of the file contains column headings.
- If your store uses multiple storefronts, select the correct storefront before choosing a promotion.
- Confirm the email address that should receive the completion notice.
Paid Add-On: Bulk Coupon Creator requires an active subscription. If the tool card displays Subscribe To Bulk Coupon Creator, complete the subscription before launching the tool.
How to Create Coupon Codes
1 Launch Bulk Coupon Creator
Open Bulk Coupon Creator from your BigCommerce tools dashboard and select Launch Bulk Coupon Creator.
2 Select a Storefront
If the BigCommerce store uses multiple storefronts, select the storefront whose promotions you want to view.
The promotion list updates to show coupon promotions associated with that storefront.
3 Select the Promotion
On the Select Promotion step, choose the coupon promotion that should receive the codes.
Use View Promotions when you want to browse, search, or filter the complete promotion list first.
After selecting a promotion, review its displayed details to confirm that it is the correct one.
4 Choose a Creation Method
On the Coupon Code Creation step, choose one of the following:
- Create via Wizard
- Import from File
5 Configure the Codes
Create via Wizard: Choose the coupon format, number of codes, character set, usage limits, and optional formatting settings.
The live sample updates while you work so you can preview the format before continuing.
Import from File: Add the file containing your codes, then match its columns to Coupon Code and the optional usage-limit fields.
Review the Preview: When using Create via Wizard, verify the sample coupon and all generation settings before selecting Next.
6 Confirm Email Delivery
On the Email Delivery step, confirm the email address that should receive the completion notification.
Your account email is filled in automatically, but it can be changed.
7 Start the Run
Start the coupon-creation job. The work runs in the background, so you can leave the page while it processes.
8 Review the Results
When the run finishes, the tool sends an email to the selected address.
If any coupon codes could not be created, a report identifies the affected rows and explains why they failed.

Import from File
The file’s first row must contain column headings. After adding the file, match its columns to the following fields:

Managing Promotions
Open the tool’s menu by selecting the ⋯ button on the Bulk Coupon Creator tool card.
The menu includes:
- View Promotions
- Export Promotions
- Import Promotions
Enable or Disable Promotions in Bulk
Open View Promotions to see the coupon promotions in your store.
The promotions table lets you:
- Search by promotion name.
- Filter by promotion status.
- Filter by storefront channel.
- Select individual promotions.
- Select all matching promotions across multiple pages.
- Select the promotions you want to change.
- Choose Enable Selected or Disable Selected.
- Confirm the action.
The changes are applied directly to BigCommerce, and the tool confirms how many promotions were updated.
Export Promotions
1 Open Export Promotions
Select Export Promotions from the Bulk Coupon Creator tool menu.
2 Choose Export Options
- Enter a filename.
- Choose Excel or CSV.
- Optionally filter by promotion status.
- Optionally filter by storefront channel.
- Choose whether to receive an email when the file is ready.
3 Start and Download
Start the background export. When it finishes, the tool provides a download notification and can send the link by email.
Each row can include:
- Promotion ID
- Name
- Status
- Current uses
- Maximum uses
- Start date
- End date
- Channel details
- Additional supported promotion settings
Ready for Import: The export column names match the Import Promotions fields, so an exported spreadsheet can be edited and uploaded again without renaming its columns.
Import Promotions
Update Only: Import Promotions updates existing promotions. It does not create new promotions and does not change discount rules.
The recommended workflow is:
- Run Export Promotions to download the current promotion data and IDs.
- Open the exported file in a spreadsheet program.
- Keep the rows for the promotions you want to update.
- Edit only the cells that should change.
- Open Import Promotions.
- Upload the edited file.
- Confirm the column mapping. An exported file should match automatically.
- Choose the email-delivery settings.
- Start the background import.
When the import finishes, rows that could not be updated are returned in a report explaining why each row failed.
Blank Cells Are Ignored: Only populated cells are changed. A blank cell leaves the current promotion value unchanged, and columns that are not mapped are ignored.
Promotion Import Fields

In this example, only the promotion status is changed. The blank Name and Max Uses cells leave the current values unchanged.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
The promotion I want is not listed
Only promotions configured to use coupon codes appear in Bulk Coupon Creator.
Confirm that the promotion exists in BigCommerce and is configured as a coupon-code promotion.
If the store uses multiple storefronts, make sure the correct storefront is selected.
The button says Subscribe To Bulk Coupon Creator
Bulk Coupon Creator is a paid add-on, and the subscription is not active for the store.
Select the subscription button and complete the billing process before launching the tool.
My import did not accept some coupon codes
Coupon codes may contain only letters, numbers, spaces, underscores, and dashes.
Rows containing other characters or nonnumeric usage limits are included in the results report so they can be corrected and imported again.
Also confirm that the first row of the file contains column headings.
Can I create more than 500,000 coupon codes at once?
No. The maximum is 500,000 coupon codes per run.
Run the tool more than once when a campaign requires additional codes.
Nothing happened after I selected Start
Coupon generation and imports run in the background. Large batches take longer to process.
Check the email address selected on the Email Delivery step for the completion notice.
My promotion import says Promotion Not Found
Import Promotions updates existing promotions only. Every row must contain a valid Promotion ID from the connected BigCommerce store.
The safest approach is to start with an Export Promotions file and edit the applicable rows.
Can Import Promotions change discount rules?
No. Import Promotions does not change the promotion’s discount rules.
It updates only supported mapped fields that contain values. Blank cells leave current values unchanged.
Can Bulk Coupon Creator create a new promotion?
No. Create the coupon promotion and its discount rules in BigCommerce first. Bulk Coupon Creator adds codes to that promotion and can update selected fields on existing promotions.
