Update Prices Tool for BigCommerce

What it does
Update Prices lets you change pricing on many products at once by uploading a single file. You provide a spreadsheet that lists your products by SKU along with the new pricing you want, and the tool finds each matching product (or variant) in your BigCommerce store and updates it for you.
You can update any combination of these four price fields:
- Price (the regular price)
- Sale Price
- Retail Price (MSRP)
- Cost Price
The tool matches rows to your catalog by SKU. It first looks for a matching product, and if it doesn’t find one there it checks your product variants, so both simple products and variant-level SKUs are covered. Currency symbols and thousands separators (such as $, £, and commas) are cleaned up automatically, so a value like $1,299.00 is read as 1299.00.
The value you put in each price column becomes the new price for that field. Any SKU in your file that can’t be found in BigCommerce is skipped and reported back to you so you know exactly what didn’t update.
When to use it
- You’re running a sale and need to drop (or restore) prices across a range of products.
- A supplier sent updated cost or wholesale pricing and you want it reflected in your store.
- You’re doing a price refresh across a category, brand, or your whole catalog.
- You maintain your pricing in a spreadsheet and want to push the latest numbers to BigCommerce.
Before you start
- Make sure the products you want to update already exist in BigCommerce. This tool updates existing products matched by SKU; it does not create new ones.
- Have your file ready as a spreadsheet (CSV or Excel) where the first row contains column headers.
- Every row needs a SKU so the tool knows which product to update.
- Confirm your SKUs in the file exactly match the SKUs in BigCommerce.
- This is a paid add-on. If you haven’t subscribed yet, you’ll be prompted to do so before you can run an update.
Step-by-step
1 Open the Update Prices tool from your BigCommerce dashboard.
2 On the Upload Price Updates step, upload your file. Remember that the first row must contain your column headers, including SKU and at least one price column.
3 Once the file is uploaded, the tool shows the Match your file’s columns screen. Pick the matching field for each column in your file (SKU, Price, Sale Price, Retail Price, Cost Price); most are matched automatically.
4 Continue to the Email Delivery step. Choose whether you’d like an email when the import finishes — delivery is off by default, and your email address is prefilled if you turn it on (adjust it if you’d like the notification to go elsewhere).
5 Start the import. The work runs in the background, so you don’t need to keep the page open.
6 When it’s done, you’ll get an email confirming the import has completed (if you turned email delivery on). If any rows couldn’t be updated, an error report is included so you can review them.
File / field reference
Your file’s first row must be headers. During upload you map each of your columns to the fields below. Only SKU is required, but you should include at least one price column for the update to do anything.

Notes:
- Each value replaces the current value for that field on the product.
- Leave a cell blank (or omit the column) to leave that price untouched.
Troubleshooting / FAQ
Some SKUs say “not found in BigCommerce.”
That SKU wasn’t matched to any product or variant in your store, so it was skipped. Double-check the SKU is spelled exactly as it appears in BigCommerce and that the product still exists.
Does this create new products?
No. It updates pricing on products that already exist. Rows whose SKU isn’t found are reported rather than created.
Can I update just the sale price?
Yes. Include the SKU column plus the Sale Price column and leave the rest out. Only the fields you map are changed.
My prices had dollar signs and commas in the file.
That’s fine. The tool strips $, £, commas, and spaces before saving, so formatted values still import correctly.
Nothing happened after I clicked start.
The import runs in the background, and emails you when it’s complete only if Email Delivery was set to “Yes.” Give it a few minutes, then check the inbox for the address shown on the Email Delivery step.
