Catalog Price Updater Tool for Shopify
🔧 Quick Info: Catalog Price Updater lets you update fixed prices and compare-at prices for one or more active Shopify catalogs from a CSV or Excel spreadsheet. Product variants are matched by SKU.
What It Does
Catalog Price Updater lets you update pricing for Shopify catalogs in bulk by uploading a single spreadsheet.
Shopify catalogs are price lists commonly used for B2B customers, company locations, or specific markets. Instead of editing catalog prices one variant at a time, you can manage them in a spreadsheet and upload the latest values in one process.
Your file contains one row for each product variant, identified by SKU. During the upload, you map your spreadsheet columns to the active catalogs in your Shopify store.
For each selected catalog, you can update:
- Price – The variant’s fixed selling price in that catalog.
- Compare At Price – The optional original or strikethrough price shown with the catalog price.
Update Multiple Catalogs: One spreadsheet can update prices for several active Shopify catalogs in the same run. Map a separate Price and optional Compare At Price column for each catalog you want to update.
The tool matches each row to an existing Shopify product variant by SKU. Rows whose SKUs cannot be found are skipped and reported in the results.
You can also remove a variant’s fixed catalog price by entering delete in that catalog’s Price column. The variant will then fall back to its default pricing for that catalog.
The update runs as a background job, so you can close the page after starting it. When the job finishes, the tool sends a completion notice to the email address you selected.
When Should You Use This?
- You sell to B2B customers and need to update negotiated or wholesale catalog prices.
- You use different Shopify catalogs for different markets or customer groups.
- You maintain catalog pricing in a spreadsheet.
- You need to update several catalogs in one upload.
- You want to add, change, or clear compare-at prices in bulk.
- You need to remove fixed catalog prices so variants fall back to their default prices.
- You want to avoid editing product variants and catalog price lists one at a time.
Before You Get Started
- Your Shopify store must be connected to your account.
- Your store must have at least one active catalog with a price list.
- Only active catalogs appear as available mapping options.
- Prepare a CSV or Excel spreadsheet.
- The first row of the file must contain column headers.
- Include a SKU column.
- Include at least one column containing catalog prices.
- Make sure the SKUs in the file match product-variant SKUs in Shopify.
Active Catalogs Only: A catalog must be active and have a price list before it appears in the column-mapping options.
Variant SKUs Required: Catalog Price Updater matches rows to Shopify product variants. A SKU that does not exist on a variant cannot be updated.
How to Use It
1 Open the Tool
Open Catalog Price Updater for your connected Shopify store.
2 Prepare the Spreadsheet
Make sure the first row contains column headers. The file must include a SKU column and at least one column of catalog prices.
You can include separate Price and Compare At Price columns for each catalog you want to update.
3 Upload the File
On the Upload Catalog Price Updates step, upload your CSV or Excel file or select it from an available import source.
After the file is read, the Match to column section appears.
4 Map the SKU Column
Map the spreadsheet column containing your product-variant SKUs to SKU.
This mapping is required because the SKU identifies which Shopify variant should be updated.
5 Map the Catalog Price Columns
For each catalog you want to update, map the appropriate spreadsheet column to:
Catalog: <name> (Price)
At least one catalog Price field must be mapped before you can continue.
6 Map Compare At Price Columns
Optionally map a spreadsheet column to:
Catalog: <name> (Compare At Price)
A Compare At Price mapping does not count as the required catalog Price mapping.
The compare-at value is applied only when the same row also contains a Price value for that catalog.
7 Confirm Email Delivery
Continue to the email-delivery step and confirm the address that should receive the completion notice.
Your account email is filled in by default, but you can change it.
8 Start the Update
Submit the tool to begin the catalog price update.
The update runs in the background, so you can close the page while it processes.
9 Review the Results
When the job finishes, check your email for the completion notice.
Rows that could not be updated are reported so you can correct the SKU or pricing values and upload them again.
File and Field Reference
The first row of your spreadsheet must contain column headers. Map the fields below during the upload step.
| Field | Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SKU | Yes | Identifies the Shopify product variant to update. The value must match a variant SKU in your store. |
| Catalog: <name> (Price) | At least one required | One Price option appears for every active Shopify catalog with a price list. The value becomes the variant’s fixed price in that catalog. |
| Catalog: <name> (Compare At Price) | No | The optional compare-at price for the same catalog. It is processed only when that row also contains a catalog Price value. |
How Price Values Are Processed
| Value | Result |
|---|---|
| Valid numeric Price | The variant’s fixed price is created or updated in that catalog. |
delete in the Price column |
The variant’s fixed price is removed from the catalog, allowing it to fall back to default pricing. |
| Blank Price and blank Compare At Price | That catalog is skipped for the row. |
| Compare At Price with no Price | The catalog is skipped for that row and the issue is noted in the results. |
| Blank or zero Compare At Price with a valid Price | The fixed Price is updated and the catalog’s compare-at price is cleared. |
Currency Formatting
The tool automatically removes common currency symbols, commas, and spaces before processing catalog prices.
| Value in File | Processed Value |
|---|---|
| $49.99 | 49.99 |
| $1,299.00 | 1299.00 |
| £ 79.50 | 79.50 |
Updating Multiple Catalogs
You can update several Shopify catalogs from the same row by mapping separate spreadsheet columns to each catalog’s Price and Compare At Price fields.
| SKU | Wholesale Price | Wholesale Compare At | International Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| SHIRT-BLUE-M | 29.99 | 39.99 | 44.99 |
The example columns could be mapped as follows:
- Wholesale Price to Catalog: Wholesale (Price)
- Wholesale Compare At to Catalog: Wholesale (Compare At Price)
- International Price to Catalog: International (Price)
Troubleshooting and FAQ
A SKU was not found in the Shopify store
The SKU in the file does not match an existing Shopify product variant.
Check for typing errors, extra spaces, missing or leading zeros, and confirm that the SKU is assigned to a variant in Shopify.
Nothing changed for one of my catalogs
Confirm that you mapped a spreadsheet column to that catalog’s Price field.
Rows where both the Price and Compare At Price are blank are skipped.
My catalog does not appear in the mapping options
Only active Shopify catalogs with price lists are displayed.
Activate the catalog and confirm it has a price list, then reopen the tool.
I provided a Compare At Price, but it was not applied
A compare-at price requires a Price value for the same catalog on the same row.
Add the catalog Price value and upload the row again.
How do I clear a Compare At Price?
Provide the new catalog Price and leave the Compare At Price blank or set it to zero. The price is updated and the compare-at value is cleared.
How do I remove a fixed catalog price?
Enter delete in that catalog’s Price column. The fixed price is removed and the variant falls back to its default catalog pricing.
The tool will not let me continue
Make sure the SKU column is mapped and that at least one spreadsheet column is mapped to a catalog’s Price field.
A Compare At Price mapping by itself does not meet the requirement.
Where are my results?
The update runs as a background job. When it finishes, the tool emails the address selected during the delivery step.
Rows that could not be updated are included in the results so you can correct and upload them again.
